About The Author

I’ve worked in IT for longer than I care to admit and have always dipped in and out of fitness—rugby at school, a bit of running, and a long-standing relationship with the bicycle. These days, though, it’s the rowing machine that’s earned a permanent spot in my routine.

What started as a way to stay active during my son’s swimming lessons has evolved into something more structured, more consistent, and, unexpectedly, more important.

I’m chasing a sub-7-minute 2K on the erg. Not because I need to—but because I want to see if I can. And to help me along the way, I’ve enlisted an AI coach (ChatGPT) to build my training plans, offer advice, and occasionally remind me to breathe.

This blog is part training log, part accountability tool, and part quiet rebellion against giving up when things get tough. I’m not a personal trainer or performance expert—just someone trying to get a little better, one stroke at a time.
